About

A perspective shaped by service, policy and institutions.

Al Hynes is a strategy adviser and geopolitical analyst based in Sydney, Australia. His work draws on more than sixteen years across government, defence, NATO, the United Nations and UK–Australia business.

His professional path began with military leadership and international operations. It moved through government strategy and policy, where clear thinking had to be matched by the ability to coordinate people, institutions and action.

A broader field of view

From security foundations to contemporary strategic questions.

International security remains an important foundation, but not the limit of Al’s interests. His work increasingly examines the interaction between geopolitics, organisational strategy, energy, resilience, climate-related pressure and public policy.

He brings political awareness, intellectual curiosity and strategic judgement to problems that do not sit neatly within one discipline. The task is often to connect specialist insight with the decisions leaders actually need to make.

Education at King’s College London, Queen’s University Belfast, the University of Birmingham and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst has supported that continuing interest in institutions, leadership and the forces that shape public life.
